It has a small keyhole, and thus, needs something to unlock it. Check your INVENTORY. You should see a KIRBY GRIP and a STRING. A Kirby Grip is the British name for a "Bobby Pin". BEND KIRBY and UNLOCK CUFF. The cuff should now be off your leg. Now EXAMINE FLOOR, which is covered in filthy STRAW. MOVE STRAW to discover a HOLE. Using your KIRBY GRIP, EXAMINE HOLE. You should automatically get a LOCKPICK, which instantly goes in your pockets. Then use that to UNLOCK DOOR, OPEN DOOR, and escape EAST. ============================= **Dungeon** EXAMINE GARROTE and get a look. It's very tall and for some reason, movable. It hints at more things in the dark, so EXAMINE LANTERN and use it to LIGHT SCONCE. You can also LIGHT CEILING to see a TRAPDOOR, which remains closed for now. EXAMINE SCONCE for a closer look, remember you may be in a Scooby-Doo episode and PULL NECK. You should hear a grinding noise from the CEILING. Then to get out of this hole (Assuming you tried the DOOR), just MOVE GARROTE and CLIMB GARROTE and then go UP to the LABORATORY. As of test: COMPLETELY WORKS ============================= **Lab** TAKE ROPE for a new item, EXAMINE SKELETON for some harmless lore and EXAMINE WALLS to find a BLACKBOARD. READ BLACKBOARD for more lore, or EXAMINE BLACKBOARD to notice it's at an angle. Hmmmm...MOVE BLACKBOARD to reveal a PASSAGE and go SOUTHEAST to the Third Floor Hall. ============================= **Third Floor Hall** Go DOWN to the Second Floor. ============================= **Second Floor Hall** Go WEST to the Stairway and NORTHWEST to the Trophy Room Balcony. ============================= **Trophy Room Balcony** TAKE SPEAR from the LION. If you carry the STRING and SILVER KNIFE, TIE KNIFE TO SPEAR or MAKE WEAPON. You should now have the MAKESHIFT WEAPON or WEAPON, which will aid you later. You can also DISMANTLE WEAPON/UNTIE KNIFE or UNTIE SPEAR if you want to. ============================= **Stairway** Go NORTH to the Study and DOWN to the West Corridor. If the ELK chases you, you can retreat here. ============================= **Study** EXAMINE DESK to see some drawers. OPEN DRAWERS for a pair of LEATHER GLOVES. Examine CHAIR to see a funny seam in its base. OPEN CHAIR to find a GILDED BOX and an unfriendly MINK. You must dispose of MINK before you leave, or else it shoves you down the stairs. You can PUT MINK IN DRAWER, but make sure you get the LEATHER GLOVES before you do this, or else he'll come flying out. Then TAKE BOX and OPEN BOX to find a silver KNIFE for killing ghosts. ============================= **West Corridor** NORTH for Library, EAST for First Floor Hall and back UP to Stairway. If you linger for three turns, the ELK arrives. ============================= **Library** TAKE RUG and get a bearskin rug. If the ELK chases you, you can retreat here. ============================= **First Floor Hall** WEST for West Corridor, EAST for East Corridor and NORTH to a blocked off Back Corridor. If you linger for three turns, the ELK arrives. ============================= **East Floor Hall** WEST for First Floor Hall, NORTH to Trophy Room. If you linger for three turns, the ELK arrives. ============================= **Trophy Room** EXAMINE TUSKS, and if you like, TIE ROPE TO TUSKS to make a TRIPWIRE. There is a conversation pit, lots of thankfully harmless trophies and a stairway to the Trophy Room Balcony. ============================= **The Elk** Belfort's pet, and your main adversary. Wait for three turns and get him to chase you to the Trophy Room. He should fall into its conversation pit and be stuck for three lingers. If you linger outside the bottom floor, he will remain there indefinitely until you wait in the corridors or the trophy room balcony. Once the turns are up, he'll forget about you and walk back to the back corridor. ============================= **DESTROYING THE ELK** 1. Get the bear rug, get chased and go to the trophy room. Go UP to the balcony and THROW RUG AT ELK while it's stuck in the pit. 2. Use your ROPE to make a TRIPWIRE in the trophy room. Get chased, then run back in to watch him get pancaked. It should drop a SKELETON KEY, which you need for the back door. ============================= **Back Corridor** MAKESHIFT WEAPON is needed for this. Use SKELETON KEY to UNLOCK DOOR, which summons a nasty GHOST. To get past the GHOST, KILL GHOST (if you have WEAPON in your inventory). The silver gets it while the spear gives you enough range to do so safely. ============================= **Outside** BARRICADE DOOR before Belfort's taxidermy come and get you. Then finally, you've won! =============================
